FAQ
Common questions, honest answers.
Is Monk by the Lake suitable for children?
+
We are designed primarily for adults seeking quiet retreat. While we don't prohibit children, the environment—silence expectations, limited activities, proximity to water—may not be suitable for families with young children. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation.
Can I work remotely during my stay?
+
Our accommodations have limited or no WiFi by design. If you need to work, we recommend the Lakeview Cottage which has limited WiFi, though we encourage treating your stay as a genuine break from work if possible.
Are pets allowed?
+
We do not currently accept pets, primarily to protect the wildlife in our forest and around the lake, and to maintain the quiet atmosphere for all guests.
What is your cancellation policy?
+
Once your reservation is confirmed, cancellation is not possible. However, you may change your dates once, provided you notify us at least 15 days before your check-in date. Date changes are not available for special periods (New Year, holidays, etc.). Approved date changes will be evaluated at current prices. No refunds are provided for early departure after check-in.
Is the property accessible?
+
Our property includes natural terrain, forest paths, and steps. While we strive to accommodate all guests, those with mobility challenges should contact us to discuss specific needs. Some areas may be difficult to access.
How long should I stay?
+
While we welcome stays of any length, guests often report that meaningful rest begins around day three. If possible, we recommend stays of 3-7 nights to fully experience the shift in rhythm.
Is there anything to do nearby?
+
The surrounding area offers hiking trails, small villages, and natural sites. However, most guests find that the property itself provides more than enough—the lake, forest, and quiet are the main attractions.
Do you host events or retreats?
+
We occasionally host small group retreats led by visiting teachers—meditation, writing, and similar contemplative practices. Sign up for our newsletter to be notified of upcoming events.
What's the best season to visit?
+
Each season offers something different. Summer is warmest with lake swimming. Autumn brings stunning colors. Winter is quietest and most introspective. Spring brings renewal and wildflowers. There's no wrong time—only different experiences.
